LITTLE GIANT STILL AIR INCUBATORS... ANYBODY HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THEM?

i finally nagged my parents enough to let me get the incubator. the one that tractor supply has is the still air incubator. has anyone had any problems with this? does it work well? i am not looking to hatch 50 eggs at one ill probably just do like 4 or 5, thats bout all i can handle at rite now!! so please tell me what i should do!!

You really have to watch the temp because it can fluctuate a lot with the LG.

They are very tempermental and I would say go get another incubator such as the hovabator genesis. I lost a lot of hatches in that thing. Some people do have great success, the majority do not.

I did my first hatch using one. It worked out well.

I started hand turning with 38 eggs and culled 10. Those were either infertile or scrambled in shipping. Out of 28 eggs, 22 hatched.

I had most trouble regulating humidity and had to put wet sponges in there to keep the humidity up during hatch time.

I've not tried any other incubator to recommend.

There are a few online places. Try www.cutlersupply.com I think they have the best prices and love their customer service.
Most people on here love the genesis 1588. IT's temp is preset by the factory but you can adjust it if needed. I've had mine over a year and never needed to. Just add water, your hydrometer, eggs and go. I usally have a great hatch in it, if not then it's the eggs or me.

The Hova bators are temperamental to. I recommend building your own because I don't have good luck with Styrofoam incubators. I was always having to mess with the temp on the Styrofoam ones. I built my own and now its just set it and forget it other than adding water. Just one persons opinion though

I think you can do ok with the LG if you are careful and watch it.

I have a very good luck with the Lg's. I do think you should try at least 12 eggs and save up for a trunner. egg cartons to hold the eggs for the first 18 days works well also. The Lgs are a little hard to get themps. just right but if you dont over adjust it works well. I start mine a few days before adding eggs and get the temp just below 100 about 98 to 99 once it is holding at that temp. i add the eggs and place the thermonter on top of the eggs centered in the left glass so you can see it this should give a temp of about 100 with out mutch adjustment most try to keep temp at 101 to 101.5 but i have found that at 100 you still have a good range with out causeing problems 99.5 to 101.5. Keep the water wells full.
