yes if there are no eggs in it then just open it & make the adjustment. Of course now is a good time to see how you'll handle such a thing later if you need to. Some times the outside or the weather has an effect & we do need to make an adjustment. The sponge was a real good suggestion too I liked that one. If you're using a sponge & the humidity is too high then you can quick pull it out & just sqeeze some morsture from it & later you can add to it.
ok i am going to pour the water out in the bottom and use a sponge i think that will work best.
just thought of a new n important question: it the temp\\humidity drops too low or too high how long can it stay like that b4 it causes damage to the egg? like say i go to bed(and when im in for the night i dont normally wake up till my roo beside my window crows) and the temp\\humidity drops and not awake to fix it??

well I can't speak for anyone but myself but this is when I usually end up running on empty & we (or I) come to understand the meaning behind the phrase "Like a worrying hen" because I run around worrying, "is it too hot/cold?" & "is there enough water & if I go to sleep will all the dials fall off the proper temp etc.?"
What I do is get the thing running as smooth as I can & once it's really on then even if there's a dip in temp technically it should return to that steady temp or that is part of calabrating the incubator because it's "on temprature" & then it's just the humidity that you're adjusting & the temp shouldn't be touched or it shouldn't have to be touched. Some times that's not the case though because like the past 2 weeks here in the northeast the weather has been so erratic it had a HUGE effect on the incubator. Then I think it depends on the breed of the chicks your hatching etc. as to how the hatch rate goes up or down etc. I usually just set the temp & then it's the last thing I check before bed & the first thing I look at when I wake up. If hubby gets up before me I tell him to check it for me & if the numbers are off he's to come get me. etc. If kids are coming in late I'll have them do the same & if I check it before bed & the temp is off then I adjust it & I sit & watch & wait until it's steady again & I have been known to sit up till the wee hours of the 4 am morning.
