Little GIant vs. Homemade bator

Actually.... if you can learn to operate an LG consistently, and learn to identify and deal with its tempermental behavior, you'll be a better poultry enthusiast in the long rung. The tempermental attitude of the LG incubators teach's beginners how to identify humidity/temperature problems, which is a really good foundation of knowledge for long term poultry hobbyists. Opting for a GQF or other incubator brand is just an easy, impatient, and more expensive way out, in my opinion. I'm glad I learned how to incubate on an LG.

We have both an LG and a Hova-bator here.

The first couple days I was going to do some incubating, the LG was holding temperature. I had in a draft free place, level, and with consistent room temps. I hadn't touched it at all and the temps went everywhere. Eventually, the thermostat just stuck on, on wouldn't turn off.

I'm glad I didn't put eggs in it ever again!

I took the eggs out when the temp 102 and switched them to the Hova-bator. The Hova did awesome, consistant temps and much better quality IMHO.

Should I use the LG again in the future, I will be replacing the thermostat with a wafer style unit. The electronic thermostat seems to be where the problems lie with LG's....

The other problem I noticed with the LG in in a dark room if you run a light around the seam where the upper and lower halfs meet you will see all kinds of light (at least my new LG was this way). That seam is right at the egg level. That was the first and last LG I'll own. ....Just my 2 cents worth

I was just looking at my LG and saw what you mean with the seal I am gonna try a 1/4 piece of weather strip and see how it go's.
