OH YEA! Ya know, I've seen the "giant mealworms" & wondered what is the difference between them & the superworms. Unfortunately I had fed them to one of my softbill birds when it was a baby because they sold them at Petsmart in the feeder section

DANGIT!!!!! Stupid Petsmart!!!!! I chose the giant mealies over the superworms because the giant mealies don't grab onto your fingers for dear life quite as bad as the super worms do...which TOTALLY gies me the willies, for sure!

Here is my latest photo of the Super worm beetle (in this photo they are mating): http://www.flickr.com/photos/xomissi/6111727709/in/set-72157625877665860 The Super worm beetles are about 1-1.5" long.

Here is a better shot of them: http://www.flickr.com/photos/xomissi/5901189274/

JUST A HEADS UP... FEEDING ANY WORMS OF ANY TYPE TO BOBS THAT ARE NOT ADULTS IS LIKELY TO GET YOU VERY BAD RESULTS... THEY HAVE A "HOBBLE" TYPE OF ATTACK BEHAVIOR THAT IS INHERENT IN THEM, FEEDING A WORM THAT LOOKS LIKE YOUR BUDDIES TOES ONLY HONES AND PERFECTS THIS TRAIT AS WELL AS BRINGS IT OUT 10 FOLD. I DONT RECOMEND FEEDING WORM UNTIL FULL GROWN AND SETTLED INTO THEIR OWN PECKING ORDER, OR YOU MIGHT WANT TO ORDER BITS NOW (YOU'LL NEED THEM

Oh wow! Thanks for the tip, JJ. I will definitely stop offering live critters for now. I have not offered them since that one time.

I definitely thought so! However, no more live snacks until they're old enough to tell toes from bugs!

My 4 week old Coturnix were chasing a fly in the brooder the other day. It was a good laugh!

JJ,
Thanks for explaining a little better a time frame/age of when to give live treats. I've read not to as babies, but it seems their not babies long, so it was iffy in my mind as to when to give treats.

I start introducing mealworms around 4-5 weeks of age on coturnix. Bobwhites, I gave them mealworms when I found my first egg. I thought they deserved the "good job" deal. My Valleys haven't laid yet but they get a little hamster bowl of mealworms because they gave me the dirty look when the bobwhites got the mealworms and they didn't. Buttons, Tuesday's and Sunday's now (we have a schedule back!). African Harlequins Tuesday and Sunday as well but they always sneak in a fly or something

Did I forget anyone? LOL
