Little Mia

Little Mia is a chicken.

She is smaller than the other chickens.

The big chickens lay big brown eggs.

Little Mia wasn’t laying big brown eggs.

She wasn’t laying any eggs at all.

Momma thought she’d never lay an egg.

Poor Little Mia.

She tried and tried, but she didn’t lay an egg.

She tried to copy what the Big Hens did.

She followed them and ate what they ate.

She followed them and scratched where they scratched.

She watched the big hens sit in the nest.

Little Mia sat in the nest, too; but nothing happened.

Poor Little Mia.

Finally, one day, Little Mia left a surprise for Momma.

She left an egg in the nest!

It wasn’t big, like the Big Hen eggs.

It wasn’t brown, like the Big Hen eggs.

It wasn’t round, like the Big Hen eggs.

It was a little white wonkey egg!

Momma was so proud of little Mia!

Thanks, yes. She's actually laid two wonkey eggs. I don't think she's eaten enough of the oyster shell, so I'm trying to encourage her.

She's very cute. Sicilian Buttercup? Her eggs won't ever get as big as the others but good for her for finally laying!

Yes, she's a little Sicilian Buttercup. I don't mind her laying little white eggs. I'm really glad to see them. It's surprising how happy I get when my feather-babies lay me eggs.
