Little Mystery Chick

At Rural King today eyeing the chicks, ended up getting a few when I saw this little one mixed in with the Barred Rocks and Delawares. I couldn’t just leave it, so it’s home with me and dubbed “Bacon”.

But what is s/he?! Single comb, legs look like they may color, brown face, barred brownish wings. No chipmunk markings. My Rural King gets from Hoover.

Way too early to tell... but if you want a guesstimate, it looks like mine with has been tossed around as black sexlink, or easter egger, or combination. I named mine BBQ, lol! So digging the name Bacon!

Is he bantam size? IDK - maybe old english game bird or D'anver? This is fun, but I am terrible at it

I tried to show it to my husband and he said “If it’s not bacon, I don’t want to see it!”
I was thinking hatchery stock maran, cause that’s the closet I can find that fits it, due to lack of white anywhere on it.

Nope! Standard, and a big standard at that. I’m praying it’s a girl. I have the worst luck with pullets, I seem to get all the oops boys in the bin.

I had ruled out Black Sexlink due to the complete absence of white down, but that was my first instinct too. I suppose with hatchery stock it wouldn’t be unusual for it to not have white down.

Black sexlinks are mixes. There may not be white on it but red... which yours has marans have definite white and black.

As everyone says on here no definite till grown up feathers are in. Please keep us posted
