Little Rooster mating with big hens?

Ok, the Rooster will do what a Rooster has to do. I don't want to hatch any chicks, not at least this year. It's to my understanding that you can still eat feteralized eggs.....AM I CORRECT?

Thanks, that what I thought. Do you collect your eggs in morning? I plan on a morning collection but might have to do an evening collection once in a great while.

I am retired so I actually collect several times a day ~ whenever I happen to be in the coop. Some of my girls lay in the morning and some lay in the afternoon with an occasional one in the evening. If you only collect once a day I would try to collect after most of them are finished laying for the day.

My hens lay early and late so sometimes I get one or two before work and the rest after work when I am in the barn feeding and doing a head count on all the sheep, horses and chickens.

Most hens will lay their eggs later in the morning, some in the afternoon. I usually do a mass collecting at the end of the day.

I have a d'uccle rooster with my big girls. I haven't seen any fertilized eggs so far, and he's been with us for a year. He's fairly active, and most will squat for him, but he typically mates them at their shoulder area, hence no fertilization...

Oh yes, the bantam roo will find a way even if he has to go into the garage and get a ladder. Ain't nature wonderful?????

My friend also collects late in the day. She has several and found it easiest to collect then. No misses!
