You stay warm too Deanna!

Well Pat must be a softie, despite her threats with manure forks. Thanks, Pat, I received the -15C which is unbelievably WARMER than before, temp is now at -12C and rising, expected to hit +2 or more tomorrow with out 16th snowstorm of the season. For once I am content to have the snow!

Hens are out, Horse is out, cats are out, all is well in our little world.

Only one thing could improve it:

I was looking at photos this morning of last summer, it was so green and lush out there - the snow is lovely, but I want spring!

It's 27°F out there and snowing heavily, inside the coop it's a toasty 34°F (thanx, remote thermometer). I've got to go out there and check on them, lazy Sunday morning around here! Our temps are going to vary between 25 and 35°F this week, with night temps down to 10°F, so I guess I'll consider this a mild spell! I wonder if we'll have a January thaw this year?

Hi Ann! We seemed to have skipped the January thaw. Is the snow heavy? We're getting a little now with the bulk crossing the Gulf of Maine tonight and tomorrow. I thik the water must me moderating the temps, after 5 days in the deep freeze like you and dangerously low, it's -9C now and expected to go above +2C tomorrow. Please...

We're getting five inches or so of ocean effect snow, although right at the moment it seems to have stopped a bit - I hope it doesn't rain on top of it, I hate ice (I just fell outside on my front walk, one of these days I'm going to break my wrist catching myself!

We had our January thaw the day after Christmas. It was a doozy -- most flooding we've had here since we've been here -- but it looks like we probably won't have another til February.

At the moment I'm not even dreading the prospect... there's really only about a very fluffy foot, maybe foot and a half (plus drifts) on the ground right now, and the Christmas thaw was quite prolonged so everything drained out really thoroughly. Unless we get a *lot* more snow before next melt, we should really be in pretty good shape here (tho we are in a very low very floody high-maintenance area)

Got like 6" fluffy snow today -- up to -4 C, which is, what, mid 20s F? Pretty nice weather

Supposed to get a bit colder the next few days, and we may get down to -30 C again during the week, but that's ok

Roo is still in the house...he's getting really friendly...severe frostbite on his comb and wattles along with bum foot. Should have brought him in sooner, I'll sure know better next time. I might have to cull him.

Thanks for all of the waterer replies. I am thinking that maybe it isn't functioning correctly. I am thinking that I will bring it inside and check it out.

Anyway, I have also been hit by the warm spell... SO BAD! Blach. There is so much ice everywhere, as in, walking to the coop I almost fell down 3 times. Just horrid.

My DH had to wench his car out of the ditch, too icy to use another vehicle.

It was still dripping all over even at 9pm.

And now the horse barn is several inches deep in water, achem, make that water with all the horse "stuff" mixed in.

The ground around the barn is still frozen enough that even though it *usually* drains just fine, it can't drain now.

I feel your pain... all this water is nuts! We're hovering right at freezing, too. Tomorrow's drive is NOT going to be fun! Hang in there... it can't last too much longer.

We're getting the same thing, +6C and water on ice. Very treacherous. Still, I want to thank Pat for nudging the warm air east, I really NEEDED to feel some warmth. Got major cleanup done in barn/coop today, well worth needing a walking stick to get to the barn. Now we need it to DRAIN before a freezeup. Hoping...

Old horse is out on ice treated with traction sand, stall sweepings. He thinks he's in heaven with warm wind rippling through that silver coat. Must be *roasting* under it. Hens have forgiven me for cooping them over 5 days.

morelcabin- sorry about your roo. Maybe now that he's comfy in the house the dead bits will fall off and he'll be okay.
