I left the house four hours ago, but I left chick #7 in the bator.

I did the float test, and it sunk . But, it was chirping a couple days ago, so I know it developed to that point. I didnt hear anything today.

After I get my kids to bed, I think I'll steam up the bathroom and open it up. If its alive at this point, it probably needs help.

Oh, I absolutely agree that I had a great hatch. Here's the statistics:

won a 9+ egg auction.

Got 12 eggs in the mail (in December, traveling over 2000 miles, during the busiest mailing week of the year. Got to my post office in 48 hours, but mail carrier drove around with them all day and then took them back to post office, never bothering to deliver them, so I got them 72 hours later).

2 started oozing right away, and terrible air sacs so I tossed them the first day.

3 were cooked in the neighbor's malfunctioning incubator around 4-5 days along, so I don't know if they were developing or not.

7 made it to lockdown, though all of the had kind of malformed air sacs.

6 hatched and are healthy.

I would say it was a 67% success rate. (I took the 3 cooked eggs out of the equation, since that was completely unrelated to the seller or shipping or incubating with my incubator)

It is far beyond my expectations, given the journey.

67% is def great - congrats!
What do you mean by malformed air sacs? I said in an earlier post that I've never been good at candling no matter how many pics and eggs I've looked at. I found 27 EE eggs under the porch stairs that she was sitting on. First, I knew I had to move her, but I also knew she couldn't keep sitting on 27 eggs! She'd been sitting for about 8 days (I left her so I had time to set up a good place for her to brood comfortably and safely). So I had looked at pics of eggs candled on Day 7. I was guessing, at best. I threw away about 16 of what I thought were duds. Who knows? Maybe I threw away viable eggs... She only hatched 3. i've candled other eggs under broodies about 4 other times and maybe I threw away viable eggs then, too. I ordered eggs and none hatched. Maybe I threw the good ones away! It sucks every time I think about it. So I've given up candling.

And maybe you can post your pic and question as a new thread so the experts can chime in and help. I certainly have no idea.

But you will love your GLWs! My 5 started laying at about 6 months and have laying like crazy! And such friendly sweeties. They like to come up on the porch to visit me when I'm sitting outside, along with the CW.

Malformed is probably the wrong word. They were disturbed/detached because of the shipping process. A couple had completely detached air cells. The rest were more to the side of the egg than the bottom.

Here's a candling picture of gg #6 (the last one to hatch) at 6 or 7 days along. As you can see the air cell is on the side, rather than the bottom. They were all like this to one degree or another:

Now see, with my candling disability (!) I would have thrown that egg away on day 6 b/c it didn't look like the pics I have seen. Yet you got a chick. Nope, I ain't candling anymore ;-) Well, I'm sure I will to hopefully eventually learn, but I'm not throwing eggs away unless I'm absolutely sure!
Thanks for sharing that - it really helps me. I've had quite a few chicks over the last 3 1/2 years - through broodies and ordering - and I've learned so much. There are alot of questions I can answer for other posters on chicks - this isn't one of them!

Overeasy, I had room in the incubator, PLUS, I could see the chick moving around in there, so I felt like it wouldn't hurt to give it a chance.

Here's a link to video I took just after I snapped that picture (the air cell was on the opposite side of where I was videotaping):

As a side note, is it still videoTAPING nowadays?

This is only my second successful hatch, and the first time, the broody did all the work the first 20 days. I feel so inexperienced still.
