He looks ready to me!View attachment 1376839 My CX is just over seven weeks. He is sooo fat, I mean like a contestant on my six hundred pound life fat. I am worried that if I wait too much longer he is going to have a heart attack, I mean he barely moves now. Do you think he will still be two young by the end of next week? This is a pic of him from last week.
7 weeks will get you a 5 pound birdI am raising Cornish Cross for the first time. I would like a 4 to 5 pound slaughter weight carcass. Can anyone please tell me what the live weight is, in order to get the slaughter weight I desire? Thank you for your response!
If you have help coming, just slaughter them all at one time. Are you going to put them in the freezer as a whole chicken or will you cut them up? Have an ice chest and ice. Ice them down, if you don't get them all cut up, packaged and frozen, there is always tomorrow.Wednesday mine were 8 weeks old, I think I should have done them last week end, but Monday, I have friends coming and we are going to do them. I keep going over how I am going to do 15 birds. Mine are huge. I kept them in a coop/run, with adequate bedding and they have done fine, and no real smell.
I might do a few Sunday night, 15 just seems like a lot for one time! Hoping the old adage, "Many hands make light work is true!
