Livestock guardian dogs

Quote: Yes I have chickens, but the dogs are for the sheep.
Almost all the Maremma owners and breeders I know of have either sheep or goats

They are much more rare, and tend to be expensive, whereas crossbred Pyrs are cheap and abundent

This was on the link you provided am i reading it wrong?
Most all dogs are crossed somewhere down the road it is what it is.

Some claim at one time there were two separate breeds: the Abruzzese and the Maremmano. The Abruzzese was more of a mountaineer and had a longer body, while the Maremmano had a slightly shorter coat. However in the 1950s the two were officially established as a single breed with a hyphenated name, Maremmano-Abruzzese. This is a classic European flock-guarding dog, probably a close descendant of the great, white Eastern sheepdogs that slowly spread across Europe over 2,000 years ago: the Karabash and Akbash sheepdogs of Turkey, the Kuvac of Slovakia, the Kuvasz and Komondor of Hungary and the Pyrenean Mountain Dog of France are all included in its blood. The ancestors of the Maremma evolved to become smaller than their fellow herd guardians while retaining the independence and aloofness of their heritage. Although it is now seen regularly in Great Britain, this breed is still rare in other countries outside Italy. It is strong-willed and not easy to obedience train, but makes a super guard. Its country of origin is Italy.

All pure breeds started out as "crossbreeds" , and were interbred for certain traits

In the case of the Maremmas, there were some that were larger and had heavier coats, and others that tended to be smaller, with lighter coats and some considered them to be different breeds.

When Maremmas became an "official" breed for SHOWING purposes, they had to set "standards" and the smaller dogs won

The breed itself goes back over 2000 years.
Pretty dog, so no double dews on this breed?
And I was wrong there have been Maremma pups listed in the area, I just wasn't looking for one so I did not know.

This so looks like my Miles. But his right ear has a yellow tip. I spent the first week trying to clean the pee stain off the tip of his ear. LMAO

Yuk it up..... Miles on the other hand had to deal with me scrubbing his ears like I do the kids faces trying to get the stain out. My kids make a big fuss. Miles sat there like 'she'll be done soon. eventually she will realize it is me.' He never barked, yelped or growled. Not once. The color has faded a bit. His ears are still a big issue. He likes to dig and guess where all the dirt goes? His ears.

Miles is 4 1/2 months and hit a leg growth spurt. His brakes don't work exactly as they did last week, and his legs for some reason go in every direction at once. He has been tripping over his own legs for the past two days. I feel so bad every time he face plants. he is sooooooooo not coordinated atm.
