That’s a neat experience. Great lessons for a kid too.I built an incubator for under a dollar. I hatched my first chick in a shoe box with a 15 watt bulb. Only had one egg but it did hatch. Without knowing about humidity needs and actual heat needs I did pretty good for a kid in grade school.
I might draw the line at emus! They need as much space as a horse.You are lucky! I can't complain though, he does have a soft spot for animals, he's wanting to get hogs, goats, and a mini donkey. We don't have the space ready for them, yet... oh, and emu'soh and pheasants.

I love rabbits too, but they would be eaten by my dog who eats anything furry except her brother (so far)I love ratites. Will I ever get one? No. I had a very big goat phase quite a few years ago. What I did have was rabbits. Wanted to get into a little bit of breeding as well. They were eaten by a fox
