It's awful here on BYC....someone just mentions a breed or species we don't currently own or ever gave much thought to, and BAM! It becomes an OCD breed we just gotta have. It's a very contagious bug isn't it!?!

Yep, we have fun on this thread! Hatch-a-long/ hijack-a-long, it's all goodPhew, fast thread!
I've humored the idea of building an incubator in the past, but then I got my Brinseas and they're so simple and easy to hatch with that I never looked back.Maybe if they burn out on me I'll look into it again. Of course, I was looking at going to cabinet size the last time I looked at incubators so...
Emus look interesting to me, but also like too much work. Also quite intimidating... but maybe that's just me. Personally, I've tried out some other poultry species and that was enough for me. Guineas and ducks gave me just enough experience to tell me that I really only like chickens.
Now, if we're talking chicken math with chickens alone... Well, at least I've dropped back below the triple digits on those. We're not even gonna talk about the huge list I keep of chicken breeds I want to own some time in the future.![]()
Oh, and on the chicken breed list, YEP! It's loooooongPhew, fast thread!

Let's go eggies, you got this! Grace and Zen, it's day 5, hop to it!Read all about it! In BYCs amazing article by @Pyxis!
Day 5
Hours 96 to 120

The embryo is clearly visible. Photo editing for details.

The embryo's head and tail have come closer together, forming a distinct C shape. The fingers on the inferior limbs differentiate. This day is very important - it's when sex differentiation occurs. The respective reproductive organs for each gender begin to form.
We had guineas for about a year, my hubby loved them, me not so much, I was not sad when they found a new home. He keeps talking about getting more, or peacocks, I would take peacocks over guineas, but they'd need a big aviary somewhere.
Oh, and on the chicken breed list, YEP! It's loooooong![]()
I think you are spot on with the peafowl, and yep, our guineas did stupid stuff too but never diedI had Guineas for about 12 years, not because I wanted to have them for 12 years, but because they lived for-freaking-ever despite that they constantly were trying to off themselves by doing dumb things.Suffice it to say, I opted not to replace them when they all finally passed on.
Peafowl, the practical part of my brain says I probably don't actually want them, either, but man are they pretty birds!I've heard that they're a bit more fragile than other fowl species, though, and require a much more roomy setup as you mentioned. I guess the practical part of my brain is probably right...
If all these cool and pretty breeds would stop showing up, I wouldn't have to keep adding them to my list.![]()
