I am thinking of getting a small group of hens and a rooster to start out. I am looking at the Black Australorp as I have read they do well in cold weather and provide eggs and meat. I live at just over 10,200' with 8 months of winter just about. Will these chickens do well here?

Hello there and welcome to BYC! :frow

I live in the mountains of New Mexico at 7,000, we do see our share of snow and cold. Black Australorps were my first flock of chickens and I never turned back! Love the breed, very cold and heat tolerant, great layers, a very healthy breed. Super friendly and docile. Get some Aussies!! :)
