loading my incubator on 4-12...anybody else?????

Well, I've ended up with 18 chicks in all (7 Dom x, 10 Giants, but only 1 EE). 55% hatch rate with the Giants which were shipped & 100% for the doms, so I'm very happy about that

ohhhh, those Jersey Giants are cute !!

so update on my hatching egg that I really really want to hatch. No progress all day, after it had zipped half way. So, I stuck a straw in the vent hole and pushed it over, just as I feared, shrunk wrapped on the bottom half, I gently rubbed the membrane with the straw, no give to that membrane at all. So, I got warm water, and poured warm water, little by little through the straw and moistened that membrane, staying away from his mouth/beak.
He is much happier, the rest is up to him now, but, there is alot more give now to that membrane.
SO, I intervened a little bit, but, the hard part is still up to him.

5 hatched as of now.

Well, I ended up with 7 chicks out of 24 eggs, first try. I am expecting eggs to get here tomorrow, I am going to go with the dry method.

:flChick pics are sooooo cute!!! I hope I have some to share soon! Day 20 for me and I don't see any rocking, but they are in a carton so maybe I won't see any movement, and I don't hear anything. I thinking mine may be a day or to late as my temps early on were a little low. Had one temp 103 once for a little while, but on day 14 thery were where they were supposed to be. On day 17 candled and I only saw movement in one of the white eggs, the other white one looked to be 3-4 days behind the others. The other eggs are dark and I couldn't see anything much except they looked full, as in they were where they were supposed to be. Should I be seeing or hearing anything yet? I hope I get some out of these!!! I only set 13, one wasn't fertilized, so I'm down 1. Please send me good thoughts about my hatch!!!!

7 out of 24 is good for a first time. My first attempt at it I had a 0% hatch rate out of 18 eggs. And the 2nd & 3rd times only 3 & 6 chicks hatched. Each time seems to get a little better & easier.

Some chicks are a little quieter than others & barely make a sound. And then some talk to you the whole time. One of the darker giants in this batch barely uttered a sound & basically skipped pipping & went straight to zipping. We were outside for about an hour, came back in, & he was already out of the shell & playing football with the other eggs

. I'll admit, though sometimes I peep back to the chicks when they get a little quiet just to give them a little encouragement

Good luck with them & hope you have a good hatch

I hope this first time isn't a bust. On Monday, I did lockdown and then went to work. Didn't get home until 5:30. The 3 thermometers were all reading different. 1 read about 98-99, 1-95-96, and 1-94, but it always reads 94, so it must not work right. The temps hadn't went back to 100 all day. I had to tweak the thermostat to get it back up. Do you think that might affect a good outcome? On sunday eve we candled like I said in a previous post, saw lots of movement in one. I don't want to think all is lost. Do you all think it is still to early to tell?
