I have a Pekin duck that spends most of her time away from the rest of the flock down at the pond. Im concerned about this new behavior as she has not done this before. Its difficult to catch this girl, wondering if there is something I should be trying different.

I'd catch her and examine her top to bottom to make sure she is okay and not ailing or injured. Might want to place her where you can keep an eye on her to make sure she is eating and drinking.

How many drakes do you have, and have they been harassing her?
No drakes with this last little group of hatchlings. I had several ducks ambushed last year and was able to collect some eggs randomly layed and able to hatch. My drake was one of the ducks killed we believe by a fox. This girl just goes off by herself worries me, then on occassion will join the group. I have 6 total now.

She will show up to eat then goes her separate way. I have to watch through binoculars at times

How old is she? I have had a couple females that once they reached a year old they became very independent and less flock bound. They're still that way even the 4 year old.

She is about 5 yrs old now. One of my oldest, then there are 3 yearlings, one other about 3 yrs
