These were " soft shelled" lobsters. I think that means that they had recently made a new shell and hadn't had time for it to harden as much as it eventually would have...if they didn't get caught and we hadn't eaten them. I did use the processor. It did not make the uniform mush that I had anticipated, but things fit better into baggies so the treats could be stretched out over several weeks whenever I grab a package from the freezer. I got tired of the gruesome business, and finally just took a couple of head-ends out to the pen. Everyone was happy to pick at them for then rest of the day. The scattered shells are kind of colorful contrasting with the snow, and I won't worry so much that they aren't getting calcium if they have their normal source and shells to munch on.
