Locating BOSS that won't break the bank

Unless you are buying for human consumption, Dont buy at Wal Mart. Their sunflower seeds have insecticide in them. So does their Wild bird seed. Any retail store is suspect. They buy in bulk and a feedthrough insecticide is adde to keep bugs out of the feed. I was feeding it to my horse and she started looking off. Horses have a cecum too and are dependant on biotics to digest their hay just as Chickens do. I had to treat my horses digestive system with ProBiotics to get her digestion back to where it should be and I was only feeding a cup to her occasionally as a treat. She weights 2000 lbs. I cant imagine what it would do to a chicken.​

I buy my BOSS at Walmart for $8 for 25 lb. I had no idea that it has insecticide on it. Where do you find that info on the package? I've read every bit of info on the package and can't find it. Do you have any research or info outside of the package info that I can look at? I would like to know what I've been feeding my birds. This seed sprouts like crazy and I was planning on planting some of the seeds to grow our own sunflowers this year.

The stuff I was buying had it printed on the front corner of the package. it was about two years ago that I bought my last package. I have to go to walmart today to get a hose fitting I will write it down. I wont be back till tonight.

I am so sorry I didnt get to walmart. I just got back from my third trip in three days to my house in the desert. its 130 miles round trip. My horse is going through a moderate crisis and I am having to treat her for some sort of Allergic reaction to an insect bite on her neck. Dealing with nosy pushy neighbors too. Sheesh. Hopefully the bath and the Aloe scrub and the Ivermectin treatment will allieve her itching.....

All I remember from the lable is "not for livestock". My guess what ever they use is fine for wild birds but If you used it for poultry probably shouldnt eat the eggs. And for all I know they may not sell it every where or even at all any more. I will see what I can dig up online.

Part of my horses issues can be traced back to a suppressed immune system that started about the time I was feeding the Boss. Her quality of life has been diminished.... sigh. I am exhausted.

THE BANK IS NOW BROKE!!!

I went to TSC yesterday and noticed that the price of BOSS has gone up. The last 40lb bag of BOSS that I purchased from TSC was $22.99. BOSS is now $26.99 for a 40lb bag!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS!!!!!!!!

I was lucky enough to find a 40lb bag of BOSS at TSC that was reduced for some reason. It was reduced to $20.00 and with my in-house coupon, it was only $19.00. If I would not have found that reduced bag, I don't think that I would have purchased it. Now, I have to locate BOSS somewhere else besides TSC.

I've looked at several different places and it looks like BOSS has gone up everywhere. I need to buy a small bag so I can start growing some sunflowers. Can't afford almost $30 for a 50lb bag of seed.

BOSS (Royal Wing brand- orange bag) from Tractor Supply where I live has been $26.99 / 40lbs for a few weeks now.

It's usually $12 for 20 lbs or $20 for 40 lbs here. We get it at the feed store so that we know that the seeds weren't treated.
