Lock down starting tomorrow

I made mine.. I have hatched a lot of quail eggs in it,.. first time hatching chickens in it but so far so good.

I bought a Gensis 1588 many yearsago. I just love it. Its preset and fan forced. Its a great one for a beginner.

OK, so I'm new at all of this, but what do you mean by lockdown?

Lockdown is the last 2 or 3 days of incubation when you stop turning the eggs and increase the humidity in anticipation of hatch day.

Thanks! This is so interesting. I thought all I wanted was chickens for the eggs and that I would never want to hatch any, but I'm getting caught up in this now. I think I'll just keep lurking and learning for a while though. Thanks again for the info.

That's what *I* did, too. Incubating and all the drama behind it and the disappointment at candling and eggs didn't develop, the anxiety during lockdown, all that business. Lordy, why would anyone want to do that???

*ahem* I have 3 small incubators each able to hold 7 eggs, have had 3 hatches and still have one more clutch IN one of those 3 incubators due to hatch Sept 24th. PLUS I have 3 sets of eggs being shipped to me to refill those empty incubators!

I even candle eggs now, which I thought I'd never do because that could make one sad before the incubation period was over.

Get yourself a fool proof incubator, like I did (don't need to buy 3 of 'em, though -

) and discover the miracle of life as even one chick hatches from an egg. Amazing. Simply awe-some, in the original sense of that word.

well just candled for the last time before lockdown and 6 out of 7 were kicking. the one not living went from dark sunday to clear today. i opened it up and there was little happening in there. but the others r all moveing alot. im still praying.

Mine locked down last night. First time hatch too. Dont know if they will hatch. Candled a couple of days ago saw movement on one but not too good at candleing. They had a rough trip here came from a BYC member in Florida. Post office sucks and 3 were broken in transit, one cracked at day 3 so that leaves 2. I hope that at least one hatches. They are EE's

My first ever batch goes into lockdown tomorrow. Out of 10 eggs I have 6 left. 3 weren't fertilized and one I dropped! So far the candling looks good. Can't wait to see what happens. This is in a homemade cooler econobator. I think I have 8 dollars in it total.

I've had the same thing happen to me. Out of 13 I got 1 chick. Shipping is hard on them.
