Ten eggs have been barely pecked open so far. Is that what is known as pipping or being pipped?
Darn incubator went awry on my last night. I don't know what happened, but now the temperature is staying at 98.9 to 99.1 degrees. I will be reworking this incubator before next hatch to make the temperature control accessible from outside without opening the door. Also need to drill another hole for a hose to put water in. I had a tray of water in the bottom with a hose from outside, but had to put in a bigger container to up the humidity at lockdown and it wouldn't fit in the bottom.
But everything is working out so far. Hopefully I'll have some little chicks by tomorrow sometime.
I too am in lock down with bobwhite quail, I have two chicks and hopefully a third, I'm getting tired of running up and down the steps so I stopped and only do it every hour
Good Luck I hope you get some peepers soon
Michele
Beats me what kind, but I got one. One of the speckled sussex has cut the egg all the way around and the only thing holding together is the membrane. It's been working on getting out for some time now, I hope it gets out. Another speckled sussex is sticking its beak out of a little hole, but it hasn't started working around the shell yet. As for the rest of the ones that pipped, nothing going on that I can tell yet.
I thought I'd post to tell you that out of 22 eggs 18 of them hatched.
Thanks, Orange Ribbon! That is cool to know! What did you get?
Well, Orange, I got about 11 Barred Rocks, 2 little white chicks, 2 little tan chicks, and 3 BQ Speckled Sussex.
That is awesome, OR!!! How are they doing?
Orange Ribbon, those little boogers are doing just great! I put some water in this morning and they drank a tiny bit, and I pitched in some food and a few of them pecked at it.
That really is wonderful, Mr. Ribbon. Congratulations.
Thanks Orange, I appreciate the shout.
Yeah, well, I figured I'd congratulate you even if nobody else gives a hoot.
