Lockdown! Cross your fingers...Newest pictures, page 18

I got 16 eggs from Alexandra (quailladyoffortmyers). One didn't make it into the incubator--I broke it by accident when marking on it. One oozed the first day, so had to come out. Probably from getting banged around by the post office. So, 14 of her eggs went into the incubator. 8 of those hatched. One of the ones that didn't hatch had gotten scrambled in shipping -- it was quite a mess when candled. The others -- with one possible exception -- didn't develop, probably from shipping stress.

I also put in 5 of my own eggs, but only one hatched. This is because my coturnix Roo was starting to moult and hasn't been as interested in his ladies with the shorter days.

Ugh, too bad your roo wasn't breeding!

so you had a 50% hatch rate -

Closer to 60% on the shipped eggs which is good. Remember, if you even get close to 50% on shipped eggs you've had great luck.

Well I got hit with the flu so I haven't even seen my babies since yesterday morning. This is the first time I've been out of bed. So far I only have 3 out. I'm thinking that's it. The others haven't moved or pipped. Tomorrow is day 21, after that I'll toss them. I get pics soon. The are english whites. Great hatch rate Rozzie! I might have to order some eggs just for some color. What about mhwc56? Any hatching?

Beckyschicks - do the float test up in the sticky before you toss them. There is a video down a few chats, check that out shows what to expect or what you want to see anyway. If you set the eggs evening of the 3rd then they have a ways to go yet. 18+3 is 21 and they could take a little longer. Float test will tell you what you have.

I think mhwc gave up decided they were not fertile.

My babies have graduated from eating their food off their shelf liner to a jar lid. Tried a flower pot tray but they didn't appreciate that. They weren't sure they were supposed to climb on in there.

Of course, they are happily scratching all the food out of the jar lid back onto the shelf liner where the lazy ones then dine.

Oh, and I hate that dead chick pose. It always freaks me out. Every blasted time. You know the one...stretched out under the heat lamp, soaking up the rays, legs extended, body all relaxed.

I wake them up when I see them like that. Can't help it. Have to see if they are okay. One was laying in the food lid doing it earlier...

I opened the cabinet incubator today to take eggs to the hatcher...well..looks like I have some early hatchers...two fawns, a Jumbo Brown, and English white jumped out....they wanted out!

If I had that many eggs in the incubator, I wouldn't be able to resist checking it constantly.
