Lockdown! Cross your fingers...Newest pictures, page 18

Oh I will. But, I want to clean their brooder this weekend before taking any new pictures.

They mess it up so fast. Little Poo factories...

I'm going to start building a Rabbit Castle for my bunny, too.

He's not going to know what to do with all that space.

I have to do some measuring, but I have a roll of cage wire that isn't open. I'm going to start by making a "fence" using that and some 2x? lumber (whatever I have in the shed). I'll leave it unpainted & use non-pressure treated wood so it's safer if bunny chews it.

Then, inside the play area, I'm going to construct some shelves & ramps and hidey places.

It'll be a work in progress for some time until I get it right, I'm sure. He's a house pet, not livestock, so I want him to have plenty of mental stimulation.

We spoil all our critters. The cats & dog have the run of the main story. Since bunny has to stay more confined (area rug sized part of the house) I want to give him as much to do within that area as possible. Right now he's got a box collection to keep him busy. (Though he seemed a bit unhappy that I changed his litter pan out earlier...)

That's a good idea. I'll have to watch for some PVC scraps (or a short length to buy for a reasonable price). They also like cardboard boxes cut up.

He was just beating the crud out of the cardboard box from my blackberry -- the outer sleeve, not the good inner box (which I will reuse). He was lifting it up above his head while standing on two feet, then SLAMMING it down on the floor. I'd put a few pellets of food inside it and he wanted those out NOW. Never mind that there were pellets right beside him in his food dish (and he knew it, too, because he'd just been over there) ...

New pictures! They are 9 days old today. They were kind of upset with me here. I had removed them all from their brooder & put them in a Rubbermaid while cleaning. They now have graduated to a big baby waterer & a proper quail feeder because they are such wasteful little snots. (Said with lots of love, of course!

Took them off their shelf liner & switched them to wood chips, too. (I don't like any babies on wood chips before 7-10 days old. I don't want ANY food confusion...) Edited to add: You can see all 9 babies in all the pictures EXCEPT for the second picture. In the last picture, Boots is the baby on the very upper right.

He's toward the upper left on the first picture, head up, yellow stripe on his head & a bit of white on his throat. He's a little tuxedo, I'd say!

Oh and it was so funny: I had taken MamaTurkey away a couple of days ago. For the heck of it, I tossed her back in today. They instantly FLOCKED to her and cuddled up to her as if to say MAMA WHY DID YOU LEAVE US! WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN!

Made me feel bad for taking her out. Guess they weren't ready to be "weaned."

Wow all those feathers and only 9 days old!? Can't wait to see what mine look like then.

VERY cute babies. What do tuxedos look like? Please say tiny penguins.

Yes, if you look closely, you will see that they will start to have tiny little feathers on the tips of their wings at only 3-4 days old. My last batch was fully feathered except for their heads by 3 weeks old.

If you want to see colors of adult quail look here: http://www.stellargamebirds.com/Japanese-Quail-Mutationsnewpage.html
This site is from quailladyoffortmyers. She posts a lot here in the quail section.

I'm guessing I've got 3 English, 1 Wild (Pharaoh), probably 2 Manchurian, at least one tuxedo, and we'll see about the other 2 when they get bigger.
