Lockdown! Cross your fingers...Newest pictures, page 18

What beautiful babies!!!

Almost makes me want to drag out the 'bator.
I noticed that you are calling Boots a "he". I'm sure that was a typo since we all know you have all girls right?

Shudder! Of course Boots is a SHE.

That darned English language with its old standards of a generic male pronoun...

It is pretty much impossible for me to improperly use "it" and "he/she" is so awkward.

I slip into the generic "he" even when I want desperately for "she" to apply.

16 days old...starting to get some feathers on their heads.

They are now able (and willing) to fly right on out of the brooder if they get startled or scared. They'll need to move to a different cage soon. I'll have to figure out what I'm going to do as far as that goes. I have a cage in the garage but it's too cold up there. I have several wire cages but don't really want to put them on wire. Hmmm. I may have to build something...

Or, more likely, I'll just cover the wire.

Yep, and a beauty of a baby it is, too! It's probably one of the most skittish, though. I'm hoping it'll tame down some later.

I'm crossing my fingers & hoping to have 2 female & 1 male with the whites. That's the ONLY male, though. The rest are going to be girls. Yes, they are...power of positive thinking. (Said after an hour of listening to crowing wars in my basement. They just settled down...for now, ROFL. The roos start in the morning in complete darkness, continue until I go turn on their lights, then continue for another 45-60 minutes. Then they settle down & just have occasional short skirmishes the rest of the day.)

Monday's weigh in (they'll be three weeks old on Thursday)

Most were in the 3.5 to 4 range. One was closing in on 4.5 ounces. One little one is still behind the others, at about 3 ounces.

Maybe Thursday I can get a 3 week weight. Keep in mind they are on 24% protein.

Supposedly, my 30% was due to come in today. When I pick that stuff up I'm having them order another bag. If it's going to take 2 weeks each time then I'll really have to plan ahead.

They are all (except for Slowpoke) fully feathered out except the sides of their heads. I'll be lifting their heat lamp again tomorrow with the goal of removing it in another week. I need it elsewhere (and they have 72 degrees where they are without it).
