So I added the suggested amount of water (as stated in the manual/100ml) into sponge pieces at bottom of incubator at the point of lock down... so that was about 10ish hours ago... i went to check temps and humidity right now and my internal therm/humidity gauge is reading 82%!! Ugh!!! I’m freaking out now because I’ve read through old post and that is way too high and could drown the coturnix chics???? This is my first hatch... what do I do?? Anything? .. do I attempt to open and get some water out??

Drowning is only a serious prospect if humidity has been too high for the whole hatch—two to three days of high humidity at the end doesn't pose the same risk, as the egg should have already lost the water it needed to.

Humidity in my Janoel is usually in the high 70s to low 80s during lockdown and I haven't lost a chick yet. The worst thing I've seen high humidity do is cause hatched chicks to dry out slower.

I know hatching is stressful, but you need to remember that it works most of the time. And when it doesn't, there are usually opportunities to try again. Best to let it ride. Fingers crossed for you :fl!

I'd take a sponge piece, or two out. 65% is about as high as you really want to go, since the humidity soars when a chick hatches out. It drops back down in a bit, but the moisture content from the egg, and chick elevate it for a bit.

I actually don’t even know how I would get a piece of sponge out at this point without disrupting the whole batch of eggs... as I would have to take them all out... I guess if I can find a syringe with long small hose... maybe suck some water out???

:pop Well--How did it work out?

I like your small humidity meter. Where'd you get it?
