Lockdown in 2 days

Sc...I hope to breed some silkies. I have white, black, blue and sizzles right now...from Lancaster Fancy Fowl and Bobbi Porto. I also have about 25 silkie eggs due to hatch next week from various types. Can't wait to figure them out. My oldest are 3 months old so this is going to be a while. I would also like to have a utility crew for selling eggs and a colored easter basket for novelty. My quest is to provide healthy eggs for my family and community.

I think I will sell the ones I can't keep or won't have room for. I have a HUGE old dairy barn I can convert...who knows!

I am glad Craigslist is so advantageous for you...do you have your certification?

I LOVE my chickens! They are so sweet.

Um, certification? That sounds like a question that I could be arrested for if I answer it wrong...
My layer flock are Speckled Sussex, black sex-links, barred rocks, production reds, and EE. That's why I bought the Marans, to have a chocolate egg to mix in with the EEs. If I had researched a little more, I would have bought the black coppers instead, for the darker eggs, but the cuckoos are my favorite DP bird. I never realized how many people kept chickens until I got into it. They are everywhere down here

SC...Just over 100. with the amount on money i was investing in my eggs and building my business and farm it just made sense to invest in better equipment. I had even driven 66 silkie and orpington eggs over 1500 miles from a breeder in Florida to NY. So, it just made sense. I have Silkies set, Orpingtons, Barnyard mix, Belgium Quail D'Anver, Speckled hamburgs (Cells detatched mostly) and CCL and Splash marans over CCL.

I had NO IDEA how big the 360 was...it is huge! Like the size of a dishwasher. I would def have looked at the dimensions but I was tired and just wanted it to be here. Always seems like the Brinsea.com shipments are only 2-3 days away.

So, this week I have 4 egg shipments due...A beautiful barnyard mix from here, the Svart Hona eggs, The CCL auction and some E-bay eggs. I am thinking they will all arrive tomorrow or Friday. I am going to set them together. I have everything too staggered right now.

I am enjoying my retirement, my farm, my new hatcher, my cool friends here on BYC and just signed up for a Greenhouse class in Horticulture while teaching again a couple classes this semester.

Do you mind me jumping in and ask if you can share with me maybe In a different message how you came to get your farm? As time goes the more and more I think about what I want in life. I'm 22 years old and work on remodeling houses. Soon hopefully I can invest into my own to have money later and think of retirement. Something that no one in my family has ever done or probably even thought of. But I always think about a farm. I want a farm. Would like to hear on your experiences if you have time and would like to share.?

Here are my 11 little new ones. Out of 15 of the eggs that developed, these hatched. I left the other 4 in the incubator just in case, but nothing is going on so I'm going to take them out soon.

Absolutely...I raised my child as a single mom in a Uniform patrol job. 21 years. I saved 15% for retirement and ate ramen. Eventually, I found myself very unhealthy...several disease states in an early stage and decided I needed to make a change in my life or die. Celiac's was one of the main reasons...no gluten, wheat. rye, barley, oats etc...spurs an auto immune attack. Anyhow, i decided to walk away from the triple figure salary and stress and live life simpler. I bought the nastiest old farmhouse I could find in the best school district...on 14 acres $101K. I traded a few acres for an old barn...and started growing organically. I planted 1800 christmas trees...should be ready for market in 7-9 years. I planted garlic...very easy to grow and will save your health over and over. Now, I choose to raise chickens...not for meat...for their eggs and feed them healthy foods and keep them happy so they will in turn produce some really healthy eggs to feed my family and community etc...

I am 45 tomorrow...and life is the best it has been since i can remember. Life is so short and so valuable~

Wow sorry about that but very nice to have a farm. Sounds like alot of hard work first which I know and willing to do. Sounds exactly like what I want to do. I want to grow organically and as well plant christmas trees. How long do they take? First time planting for me was last year. Corn, tomatoes, and peppers. I did alright although I got into it half way through the season. I am really excited for this coming spring/summer. Why is garlic really good for your health? I'll look it up lol. But I don't really remember how or why I came about wanting chickens. I think when I started reading about gmos and wanted better eggs. At first I was hesitant to eat the eggs for some reason, but now I can eat them with no problems. But I think I want a farm to be able to work for me and what makes me happy, to be able to wake up to big land and do what I want but mostly for my parents to have a better life. Don't want them to work, I want them to enjoy life and live a a little with no worrys. Sounds like you are really enjoying it. Thats great

Have a question for anyone willing to answer. Is it ok to put a stick from outside for a roost for the little chicks even being couple days old. Will I be bringing in anything in that can harm them?
