Lockdown?

Good luck with your hatches! Day 21 will be Monday for me. I'm excited too, but for some reason I can't keep the temp regulated. Something or someone turned the temp up! My thermometer read 105 degrees yesterday afternoon when I came home from lunch! Now I can't get it to stay at 99.5 again.

I guess I just need to hope for the best!

Room temps may have something to do with that or if its near a window, the temps will go up.

Wound up getting about 3 hours of sleep. I kept going to check the temp & humidity - temp is holding at 99.3, but humidity refuses to go over 47%.  I have 2 containers of water taking up about half of the incubator floor and a damp sponge in there, so I suppose I'll just work with that. Not sure of what else I can do.
I just can't wait to see new life waddling around the bator. I know I'll cry, lol. I'm sappy like that.
one way I get humidity up is put a really hot wet rag in there! My humitity gets up to 86% sometimes! Try that!

My temp jumped up to 108 the very first night I incubated my eggs. I knew it had killed them all off. Nope. Somehow all 11 that were fertilized made it through the temp spike & were doing great as of day 18. I have to watch my temp closely. We heat with a wood furnace, so the house temp fluctuates quite a bit. It's a headache, I know...

I actually have 2 tubs of water AND a damp sponge in there to help with humidity. 47% is as high as I can get it. My house is really dry bc of the wood heat, so maybe I'll try to find a humidifier for the room the incubator is in.

I am following you all. Lockdown for me was this morning. I have a second incubator that will go in to lockdown on Friday morning. You never get over worrying about them. Waiting for the temps to get back to normal and for the humidity to get on up there now. Turkey baster will be used to add warm water as needed. Water in the trough and tiny bowl with a sponge and water sitting in the middle.

Simply time to wait......good luck all!!

Good luck with your lockdown!!! I'm frustrated right now. 13 hour work day, so I won't get to check my eggs until close to 6 tonight. I did find a humidifier on CL that I'm going to try to pick up later. Hopefully if I get that set up, it'll help get the humidity in the bator up. If I'm not able to get to it today, then I guess I'll just keep adding warm water through the vent holes. I'm scared of the possibility of shrink wrapping. Keep me posted about how your hatch goes. I love reading about everyone's experiences.

I have seven silkie eggs going into lock down tonight. Not my first hatch but I am still pacing. I NEED a distraction. Of course I have been watching ebay for more hatching eggs. Perhaps I need to find something ELSE to do. Perhaps I'll go clean my closet :)

Lol, that's the point I'm at... But I have no idea what types of chickens I have. My boss just came over one night last month and dropped off 23. I did have a turken, but I gave him to my cousin since she had a female. All my eggs I'm hatching have come from my hens and roosters. I need to do dishes when I finally break out of jail, umm work, so maybe that'll pull me away from the incubator for 15 minutes. Good luck with your hatch!!!
