Locks of Love

I am aware the Locks of Love sells hair that is not suitable for children's wigs and more power to them. I would hope they did something useful with it instead of throwing it away. I used to sell my hair and I know it can bring good money to an organization that does so much good.

When I give a donation of any kind, I would never think to dictate what they will use my gift for. If selling my hair would be the best choice, then I support it. If making a wig or 2, then that is great, too. Their call.

You would think these organizations would work together and do the best for the patient. That is how I choose where my monetary donations go. Thank you for the info.

I gave 2 yrs ago (I think - it could have been 3) - 13 inches.

I have been thinking about wacking it off again.

Yayyy for you, Terrie!

I had long hair in high school and one day I could not take it any more so off with the 13" and I have never let it grow back. I donated mine and it felt very good.

Good for you Terrie! I have known a number of women and girls that have donated as well, and they are always so proud of their shorter hair knowing they did a good thing.

I haven't donated, it would take a special kind of person to want my wild funky mane! Although my sons would love it if I let them grow out their hair long enough for the required minimum.

In response to alot of posts here, I have to say that any person who donates anything to any cause is helping the less fortunate. Many of these charities need to charge something just to stay ahead of the game, as federal funding is scarce. Locks of Love is a wonderful charity that helps people at their lowest point, and if someone has to come up with $15, call me.

I can't seem to get the pictures in the right place to upload them here, but I cut mine a couple years ago and donated 16in to Beautiful Lengths. My boys are growing their hair out right now, and I imagine when/if they decide to cut it, we will donate their hair as well. I have after haircut pictures in our Family album here: http://www.picturetrail.com/our2boys .

Thanks to all who do this. Although I never wore a wig, just bandanas, I know many people greatly benefit from this program, to be able to look a little bit normal. Thanks for you kindness to people at a very hard time in their lives.
