Hi, my 6 year old hybrid light sussex hen is gasping to breathe and gurgling. She feels warm to the touch and her comb is pale. Her eyes are closed and she is very easy to hold and pick up which is very unlike her as she's quite skittish. She hasn't laid an egg in months but was otherwise healthy until yesterday.

It felt squishy I don't think it's sour crop because I've dealt with that a few weeks ago on another hen and Lollipops crop smelt normal. No new hens added to the flock since last june. I'll feel her lower belly tomorrow morning as they are locked into bed now.

Are any other of your birds showing symptoms? I hope it isn't bird flu. The symptoms seem to come on quite suddenly :(
If it were me, I'd separate her from the rest of the flock. Also separate any others that might be showing similar signs. I might be paranoid but bird flu kills so quickly, it's scary.

Sorry to keep posting here, but I had to do a quick search. A case of bird flu in a wild bird was just reported in Ireland on December 10th, the first since 2023. Definitely take precautions. Ireland is small and I have no doubt that one reported case means there are more out there.
