Lone chick not doing well

This is more complex than just introductions. He has not learned "chicken" and does not know the rules, what postures come before a sharp peck, how to posture and tell another chicken he is boss. He needs to learn this through the wire where he can posture and not get fully beaten up, just maybe pecked in the beak or something. Make the wire small enough that no one can get their heads through the holes. He has to learn from scratch what means what in chicken social structure. The silkie will help some, but if he can see chickens interacting normally and give and take a few through the wire without getting clobbered that will help him more. It is hard, but if you are going to keep him and need him for roo work, it is worth the effort. Sorry you have to go through this. It IS hard, on everone.

Thanks onthespot. You are so right. All he/she knows about chickens is a reflection of him/herself in the mirror. I don't talk chicken too well but we developed a communication betweeen ourselves. If I can find some help I will take the brooder out to the pen and leave the chick and the silkie in it while the chick trys to learn "chicken".
