Lone duck

My daughter has raised two ducks for the last two years and our female died a few months ago. We’ve been scared to introduce ducklings to the male. Will he hurt or kill them? How do we begin the process and is this recommended?

Do not introduce ducklings to the drake until they are mature. He will injure them trying to mate with them. If possible it might be better to get some mature duck hens.

You may also want to look at a bachelor flock. There are so many drakes looking for homes, especially this time of year.

Whatever you decide, yes, get adults or at least older juveniles as Sourland suggested, and get at least two. If you get females, I suggest even more so the drake doesn't overbreed them.

Good advice already given: I like the bachelor flock suggestion. My flock is all rescued drakes as so many are dumped on ditches and ponds when the little fluffy duckling grows into a drake.
