Hi all! I've got my one little Muscovy duckling outside in her brooder (predator-safe now). She has food, water, heat etc, but is peeping her head off pretty much constantly. I'm sorry I'm so duck-ignorant, but I know with chickens, they hate to be alone. Could she be peeping because she's alone, or is that just what they do? She didn't peep like that in her tub in my bathroom, but she was hearing people all the time. Now she's just got the chickens to look at. :)

I could probably get another duckling, but only really wanted one... She sounds like a little mallard duckling I heard yesterday that had gotten separated from her mom & siblings.

Anyone?

Yes she is very lonely they really need a buddy. 2 would be better than 1.

I have the same problem!
my ducklings brooder is next to the head of my bed so she's never lonley.
but even the small amount of time i'm not by her side she cries.
It makes my sad because she is so sweet and I cant stand to hear her cry like that...

I wish she had a buddy but like you I only really want one.
The only reason i did not get her a buddy is cuz I rescude two eggs and only one was fertile...
I guess ill have to put up with the future imprinting problems.

I can only speak from experience that if either of you have drakes you will have problems. once they get the hormones running they become holy terrors. they really need one of their own.

Mine is supposed to be a female...we shall see. So how much more trouble are two ducks?

I am quickly realizing that "chicken math" extends into the world of ducks too. :)

She has now stopped peeping and has settled down for now, but...

2 ducks are no trouble at all and because she is a Muscovy s they won't wake the neighborhood quacking up a storm.
