My kids and I wanted to start getting chickens so we got a 6 egg assortment only one out of them hatched, a rooster and he is only 2 days old his chirp is dry sounding and he won't drink will he be ok in the mean time I ordered 4 hens that will arrive on the 18th he won't be lonely long but I may need help or advice with this little boy.

Thanks he crawls into my hand and stays under it I'm just nervous because he sound dry is it ok if he won't drink I tried touching the water to show him and even dipped his beak in it and still hasn't tried it.

Does he have a heat lamp or a way to get warm? Do you have nutri drench or chick electrolyte on hand? If you don't I would put just a little molasses or sugar into his water because when he does drink he needs some sort of nutrient to be able to properly absorb water and be well hydrated. Try putting some water in a syringe and dribbling it on the side of his beak, they usually take it well.

How do you know it’s a cockerel at 2 days old?

Ok I'll do that. I have the electrolytes pack and I have him in the incubator still on the same temp he was born and 50percent humidity
