One of my turkey poults has a badly deformed leg. It still eats/drinks (for now) but can't stand or walk. Unfortunately it has no hope of recovery. The problem isn't the culling, but the fact that I only have two turkey poults. If I cull the injured bird, the other will be alone. On the other hand, if I continue to care for the bird, it will constantly be harassed by its sister. I have a small flock of laying hens, but am hesitant to put the remaining turkey near them for fear of decease transfer between the turkey and the hens. I don't want to throw my very social bird into an anxious state by making it solo. Any advice?
Hens go broody when you don’t want them to… and won’t go broody when you do.
