Lonely Duck

I think if it was your dog, you would have found bodies. Dogs will sometimes eat what they kill, (Mine would eat the squirrels he catches, if I let him) but he wouldn't be likely to carry them off and consume them elsewhere. Did you find any blood on the dog? Lots of fox. coyote, even bobcat attacks happen in daytime. I certainly would be careful with the dog and the remaining duck, it's not out of the question entirely, but it just doesn't have the earmarks of a dog attack.
We did find bodies, and there was a mess of feathers all over the yard. This morning we tested them while we were home and she cornered the remaining duck.

Oh. I had the impression you only found feathers. That's different, especially as she is now going after the duck. Sorry to hear that. Some dogs are just not safe around them. I don't trust my dog with the chickens, I watch him like a hawk. He doesn't mess with them when I'm around, but still, he has a high prey drive. Sorry. Still, a game camera is never a bad idea. One never knows what's lurking, waiting for an opportunity.

I'm sorry this has happened for you. :hugs What is the breed of the remaining duck? Do you think you'll be able to keep your duck and new ducks away from the dog?

Ya sorry, I didn’t explain very well. They’re definitely getting separated now, and not trusted together ever again. I was shocked that she actually tried to do anything while we were home. This dog is one of the sweetest dogs ever, but now she’s had the taste. Game Camera is happening, I want to make sure nothing else will be harming my babies! Thanks for all the advice, and the assurance as I think that’s what I needed the most!

Last one is a Pekin (my baby, she climbs up on me and hugs me, and just loves me, I’m thankful it wasn’t her though I’m so sad it happened at all!) the other two were black Swedish. The dog is now living on a leash while we aren’t home, and we will be building a run for the duck ASAP! Or making a separate fenced in area for the dog.

hi I had two ducks and unfortunately my female duck passed away almost a year ago. I am not in a position to get another duck to keep my male duck company at this point in time. over last winter it was very cold here so I kept him in the house a lot but because they poop everywhere I cant keep him in the house all the time.
just wondering if there are any ideas to keep him from being lonely. would love any suggestions
thank you

He needs other Ducks...

Well a mirror may help but honestly he really would be happier with other ducks. Do you know any one who has ducks who maybe interested in taking him in? There are members who have ducks inside as pets.
