Lonely Goose

Awww..... it takes time to learn body language and develop trust with a new species of animal, so I understand your concern. But everything you have described tells me your goose is very sweet and lonely. I would bring her a bowl of fresh water and sit with her on your patio... she will love you for that!!

I do believe she is very lonely. I watch her with the Canadians and she follows them the same as me. She won't hiss at them though. If she gets in their way they peck at her and she goes off alone. The male like her randomly comes around and he is very bossy and dominant. I feel that she is too sweet and doesn't fit in with the other goose who seem mean. I will try to offer her some fresh water and just sit with her. It is something to watch her and try to learn her body language. I wish she could be my goose as I am an animal lover and originally came to this board for help getting my HOA to allow chickens. However I know that is not what's best for her. I called around this morning and found a place that rescues dumped geese and ducks. They open at noon and I will keep you guys posted! In the mean time I have a guy coming by today to measure my fence line. Lets hope she doesn't fend him off as he is a stranger. She has really taken a shine towards me but will not allow my kids or husband near her. She would make a good guard goose. Oh, to the post that said never hand feed her. No worries there I am too scared of her. I guess I better fake it and walk with confidence :/

More than likely she will keep a wide berth from him, but just in case you can run interference, i have to do this with my geese and dogs, I use a long pole anything will work even a long stick, when they come towards my dogs I put the stick out between them and the dogs it;s like an extension of your arm. Not for hitting just to stop any unwanted bullying. [which geese are known for] Sounds great this place you found, please let us know and if they will take her. Don't tell anybody but I hand feed my geese.

Pander.... before you allow your bird to go to a "rescue group"... do a site visit. Sadly, many rescue groups are over capacity and some turn into hoarders. I believe that it is a much better fate to allow someone from this forum to get her.

x2, if the contact I sent you didnt pan out, be in touch with the previous poster from Ocala to come collect the lone goose. Sadly since it isnt really your bird the HOA can ask the county to come help remove them. There are a number of "rescues" here in FL who are not registered not-for-profits, and who collect free animals to resell

Oh it's all so worrisome. I had planned on touring any facility before I allow them to take her. I know there are always bad apples in the bunch. I just feel so nervous about where she will end up. I would def. much rather someone from BYC adopt her. I also worry about people from the HOA making a fuss over her. I have talked w my neighbors and they don't mind her so at least we won't receive any complaints.

I agree the BYC from Ocala would be a great choice. We even have people post on BYC asking for free unwanted animals, it's just not an easy decision and one has to be so careful.

Like I said, she is welcome to come to Ocala with us. We are not a "rescue". I just offered because she sounds like she needs a nice home. You're welcome to come check our place out. We have a large pond and a small pond, and a private motocross track all around the ponds. Lots of places to graze. Our ducks & geese have a sweet life and even walk up to the house in the afternoon for a snack (which now includes my landscaping!) . We have 23 ducks and 6 geese. We don't eat them or breed them, they're just pets and we just like watching them. They are SPOILED! LOL. My email is [email protected]. I could probably come get her too, I have a cage to transport her in. Let me know what you want to do.

I hope you don't think i was referring to you when I mentioned those that come on BYC asking for unwanted animals. I was referring to the threads that have feathered animals for sale or free here BYC. I hope it works out for ya'll to take her sounds like a wonderful place.
