Lonely runner drake

Annarie, I apologize if I came off as being "nasty." My intent was all in the best interest of the OP's animals. I saw no sense in compounding the heartache with injured hens.

I had my first 2 ducklings last year. One was killed by the neighbors dog when they were about 4 months old. The remaining duck was devastated. I ended up getting any other female duck I could so that my girl would SHUT UP. She did nothing but quack after her buddy died.

She was much better after I got her a new buddy.
This past spring I got 2 more runner ducklings, and now she's content as can be.

Well today is day 4 without Martina. It's raining here and instead of being out in the pool and enjoying the rain, Willie is holed up with the chickens in the barn. He did come out to the pool when I coaxed him and stayed with him, but as soon as I headed back into the house he headed back into the barn. it makes me so sad, I really want to get him a friend. If I were to post on craigslist looking for a female duck, my questions are 1-would he be ok with a duckling,? he's 4 months,2- could I put him with another breed of duck?
3- how long would I have to quarantine the new duck for? 4- are there certain breeds of ducks I should avoid, as I am a novice in the duck world, only 4 months experience.
