Long Beach, CA

Hi!
I live in Long Beach, CA and have had hens now for four and a half years. What a joy they are!

I'm looking for someone who would like to trade chicken sitting care while either of us is away from home. I want a chicken lover to care for my girls.

Interested?

My first need is this next weekend.

Please contact me at [email protected].

City Chicks Rule!

Hi, I;m in LA are but visit LB very often. I would no mind chicken sitting for SoCal neighbors. I would like to know whether any of you have chickens for sale right now OR fertile eggs for breeding. Hope someone in CA does. Thank you!

I live in Long Beach, CA and have had chickens in my backyard for about five years. I'd love to know others in the area who have chickens as pets.

I've had as many as seven hens - never a roo -- and right now I have four; leghorn, silver-laced wyandotte, maran, araucana. Will be adding 5-6 baby chicks in March. Can't wait!

I guess we must be just a little bit quirky to want and have backyard chickens in the city. I'm just fine with that!

My husband and I live on a double lot near Bixby Park we've had chickens here for about five years. I'm the chicken lady, he's the admirer. I have four hens right now, two of which are laying and am about to add 5-6 baby chicks in March. This has been one of the most fun and rewarding experiences I've had.

I hope you have begun the chicken adventure. There's lots of information and advice available here on BYC and elsewhere in some very good books.

Best wishes!

Hi, I'm not terribly close to LB. Closer to San Gabriel Valley, Pasadena area.
What kinds for the chicks are you considering?
We currently have a pullet EE, Welsummers, Mottled Java, & a few ducks. I'm thinking of adding Marans, CL, or Black Star in the future. Ohhh, so many to choose from and so little space. : )

I agree! I want every type of chicken there is. Need a farm. Oh well! My little backyard city farm will just have to do. :)

Currently, I have three hens: aracauna, silver-laced wyandotte and maran. Love those girls. I'll be adding in March: another Aracauna, Rhode Island Red (2), Leghorn, Australorp, Buff Orpington.
Long Beach doesn't allow Cockerels.

I live in Long Beach too and have chickens! I have an ameraucana, golden sex link, barred rock, a couple silver-laced wyandottes and what the hatcher called a Rhode Island Black. I started out with more but unfortunately not all of them made it. A few of the chicks ended up being roo's and kept one of them. With the help of the no crow collar I have been able to keep his crows quiet enough to not bother the neighbors. My chickens are just reaching 4 months old. I never knew I would love chickens as I do. It makes me happy to hear of others in LB that have chickens.

Hi KellyJean! I am in LA near Torrance and enjoy my chickens too! My 11 yr old granddaughter in Tx who got chickens this year told me a sock works too on roo crow. She is right but I have several now so they have to go. I have a beautiful variety of hens but need to cut down on them too! 4 month olds. Know anyone who wants to begin ? Maybe pm will enable us to meet? Here are a couple pics.
