In your opinion which std breed of chicken will lay the longest , mine appearently have laid out ( most are over 2 yrs old ) and i'm going to have to replace the whole flock except for 3 young ones , but I have 14 black jerseys about 1½ months old primed for the spring .

In my opinion I'd not keep a laying hen over 2 laying seasons period. Personally I plan to rotate out each year.

Whether it's a wives tale or based on fact it is said that a hen will only lay a predetermined number of eggs in a life time. Using this rule of thumb then your breeds that lay less per year will lay longer, have less dramatic change in laying each season.

If it's believed this is true then a breed such as Maran or Dominique or Dorking that lay 150 per year would lay the longest for you.
