They were not so much chosen for flock protection, just pets. We lost our 18-year-old Australian Shepherd last spring and did not want to be without dogs.

I have had rottweilers with my chickens and it always was difficult to train them not to kill. I have since bought a pyrenees and he seems to be easier to adapt to chickens. He is also been a very good pet so far.
