So sorry about the passingsBrahmalot has quite a few "oldsters." Lady Oreo is King Rocky's sister, which puts her at over 8 years old. Ladies Blackie and Bertha, Jersey Giants, predate the first Brahma, which makes them almost 9. Lady Buttercup also predates Oreo and Rocky, putting her 8 to 9 years old. Queen Frack is between 8 and 9, also. This scribe is sure there are others whose names escape this tired brain at 6:00 in the morning. These ladies have earned their retirement, although Lady Blackie still lays faithfully and is a frequent and wonderful mother. Queen Frack has not laid an egg in probably two years, nor has Lady Oreo or Lady Buttercup.
Although it is sad to see the passing of any of the citizens of Brahmalot, comfort is derived from the fact that they have had long and happy lives.
Amen.I'm so sorry. Most people don't understand how we feel about our girls....they think that they are only chickens. There is no such thing as "only" chickens. Fortunately, there are many members of Brahmalot that have her to thank for their place in the castles of Brahmalot!
I am so sorry about the passing of Queen Mother Chrissie. Your tribute to her made me well up. She certainly was loved, and she left a long legacy with all the chicks she raised.More sad news for Brahmalot. We said goodbye to Queen Mother Chrissie today. She died peacefully of unknown causes, perhaps just old age, being almost 9 years old.
Chrissie and two others were the first chickens, long before Brahmalot was created. Along with her two friends, Jack and Janet, Chrissie moved in even before the neighboring giants moved in over eight years ago. Over the years, Chrissie was happiest when she was broody, raising many children, including Queen Frack. We lost Janet and Jack to predator attacks in past years, but Chrissie survived both a hawk attack and a dog attack over the years.
R.I.P., little mother. You are the reason this scribe fell in love with chickens. Your personality and just plain feistiness always brought smiles to the faces of all. Thank you for almost nine years of hunting eggs, which you always laid in strange places, and all the joy you brought to Brahmalot. Goodnight.
