So sorry for your loss Sjisty. I just finished reading the whole thread the other day and it's amazing!

I am so sorry about the passing of Queen Mother Chrissie. Your tribute to her made me well up. She certainly was loved, and she left a long legacy with all the chicks she raised.

Yeah...and she was a good mom too!!

Oh, Sjisty, you know how emotional I am, and you're keeping the tears flowing......... again. So very sorry, once again, for another queen of Brahmalot to have left the kingdom; especially one so revered and loved. Wasn't Chrissie the matriarch of the kingdom? So glad she was given such a good and loving life.

Thanks for all well-wishes. Yes, Chrissie was the first, even before there was a Brahmalot. She hatched and raised many, including Queen Frack. She passed very peacefully during the day, nice and warm inside the neighboring giants' kitchen. There were no symptoms, except she was acting a little "off." It is unknown how old she was, but at least 9 years old, as she was a laying adult when she came to us 8 or 9 years ago. She had a long and happy life, and up until the end was doing what she loved - raising babies.

Sjisty, I have a theory why your hens live long, because you let them hatch naturally and they are always having chicks about they keeping having that will to get to the end of each brood, but before they have time to die they are on eggs again and the mothers instinct kicked in, just a thought as I had a hen who was a bit off and only 2 yrs old (she was a rescued ex commercial hen) but she went broody and perked up but we didn't have eggs for her and within a few days of her coming off the nest she died
