Long live the King - the neverending story of Brahmalot!

I love your thread! Wonderful stories as always!

These princes are so very handsome, that I must ask what color they are. Are they Partridge Brahmas?
Of course I don't need any more chickens...

These boys are blue partridge Brahmas, about 6-ish months old.

Wow. Okay, I have some questions on Brahmahs. Here goes; Are they very friendly? Do they lay a good mount of good sized eggs? Are they cold and heat tolerant? How long do they live (I like my pets to live a while b/ I get really attached to them)? How long do they lay? Are their leg feathers ever a problem, say, they get dirty and you have to wash them? Do they do well with other breeds of chickens (are they social)? And finally, can you tell what color they will be by what their parents look like (I know it's stupid, and it doesn't really matter how they look if there healthy, but I just like ortimental (pretty) chickens) ?
Hi Peepsicle -

Some of my Brahmas are extremely friendly, to the point of being pests. If you sit down in Brahmalot, you will have at least one chicken on your lap. Some of them are touch-me-nots - it just depends on the chicken. And, yes, if you have any food, or even if they think you might have food, you will not be able to walk without stepping on someone! My girls lay about 5 eggs a week, large to extra large tan eggs. The feathered legs and feet plus small combs make them very cold tolerant. We live in Florida and have lost two over the last six years to what I think was heat stroke. They were very large roos. With lots of shade and always fresh water, we havn't had any problems in recent years. My oldest Brahmas are about 5-1/2 years old and very healthy. The only problems I have had with dirty feathers on the feet is when my hubby was trying to pour concrete to extend our front porch. That was lots of fun until I closed the chickens up! Brahmas are generally very laid back and easy going and we have never had a problem mixing with other breeds. As far as colors, the only recognized colors here in America are light, buff, and dark, and the babies tend to look just like their parents. I have mostly rare breeds, partridge and blue partridge, among others, so I get lots of surpises, but I haven't seen a color I haven't liked.

I think this covers all your questions. I highly recommend owning (or being owned by) Brahmas - they are the best!

Prince Lucky and Princess Jiffy continue to grow and are rarely seen far apart.

Prince Lucky has come far from the poor battered and bloody survivor of a hawk attack!

Meanwhile, as so many before them, the youngsters get their first taste of the main coop before being tucked back into the nursery.

Oh oh, it looks like we might just have another ugly chickling!

Ms. Giant, (Sjisty) do you breed these fellows for certain colors? Or let them all go together? You seem to have very neat coloring in them so I wonder.
Right now the citizens of Brahmalot all free range together. Sir Danny Partridge has been retired and neither Prince Lucky or Sir Marco are old enough yet to marry. In the spring, they will be setting up their own castles with their wives. Prince Choco will also be setting up his castle with Lady Bluebell and a few others.
