not necessarily. Chirk just stood still for me to work on him. He figured out quite quickly I was helping not hurting.

Update:
I think her lack of preening is stress related. We thought we had a chipmunk going after their feed but it ended up being rats, and they totally freak out the chickens.
While we battle the rats, I only put food down in their porch when I can sit out there with them. They stay locked in their coop with food and water the rest of the day.
When they’re on their own in the porch ~ they stand together in a little group, frozen like statues. They’re not super active inside the coop either, so not a lot of preening going on in there.
But when I’m out there with them, they act like chickens ~ eating, scratching, dust bathing, and preening. So… stress. I had no clue!

She’s made quite a bit of progress getting sheaths off in the last few days, so yay there!
