Longing for chickens in Palm Coast, Florida

Hi my name is Chris-
I have been wanting chickens forever. I bought a house last year with lots of space and am hoping to put chickens on it in the near future. I live within Palm Coast City limits(S section), in Flagler County. I have looked up ordinances, rules and regulations and all I keep coming up with are conflicting answers, mostly they point to, "No you can't have a chicken". I know of peple who have their chickens illegally, however, I would like to go about it while obeying the law. This is unacceptable to me. I would like to know if anyone has any idea how I can go about trying to get backyard chickens approved in the Palm Coast area. Is there anyone that is willing to help me with it?
I would appreciate any help that would be provided. I have been trying to research all week on my own, however, I am not sure even where to start. This is my starting point. Thank you in advance for any help that is offered.

Hi Chris! Congrats on the new house and sorry about the chicken ordinances in your city. I found this source which looks to come directly from city government that outlines where chickens can and cannot be kept according to local zoning: http://docs.palmcoastgov.com/departments/animal-control/chickens.pdf. It looks like your suspicions are likely correct; unless your home is located on land zoned agricultural or rural estate, chickens aren't allowed. The document I linked doesn't have a date, so it's still worth getting in touch with someone from city government.

Chicken keeping is becoming more and more popular, you could drum up community support and potentially petition or otherwise request a change to city ordinance, though this would take considerable time and effort without the guarantee of success.

Best of luck to you!

Chris hasn't been on the site for over 4 years.

:welcome:frow I don't know about your county. You have been given some good advice. We have a farm swap twice a month. If you are ever in our area on a swap day, stop in and say hi. I'm the old lady in the TSC hat. We have a lot of different animals including chickens. Good luck and have fun...
