hey everyone, sadly, only one of my quail eggs hatched 1 week ago. I've looked all over the place and found no chicks that i could buy for friends. so I'm incubating more eggs and hopefully the new humidity sensor wont fail me as did the old incubator's sensor. in the meantime, i reallllllly would appreciate any suggestions for boredom busters. (He is six days old and doing well.) i tried to put a stuffed animal in there but he doesn't care. i tried to let him out and have a little area he could explore, but he wanted straight back in the brooder. Any ideas?

I have raised a lone king quail chick. She was rejected by her parents when she hatched so I raised her on her own and gave her constant attention. She ended up very tame and still loves hugs from me. I loved doing it but it was tough and she would get so sad when I wasn't there.

For me, the best thing was to spend time with her as often as I could. I know that can be hard though. I never tried the mirror thing, it could work?

yeah, ive been trying to put little dr. sues books around his cage for him to look at pictures. he was at first very attatched to me but then i went on a three day trip and my mom took care of him, but she didnt cuddle with him. im trying to regain what we had, but im gone at school a lot unfortunatly.

This happened to us, too. Have you tried to hold him with one hand and cover your other hand over his head? This way it feels like it has a mother snuggling it. You can also put in blankets for it to burrow under. These things worked for our lonely quail. Good luck with your next quail eggs.

Hope this helps!

I too had this problem. Around a week and a half old, one of my females got badly beat up. I put her in with the chick and it actually worked out great. They are still inseparable.

Right now in my current batch of 2-week old chicks is a male - who I did not realize was a male and put with my silver who I keep separate to the quail pen and a little female who I think is being mated too much and had a slight wound on her head.

I would not put an adult in with tiny chicks but does not seem to cause a problem for chicks who are at least close to 2 weeks old. The chicks seem to want to snuggle all around the older birds - and on top of them. Just watching them now. The battered male is tolerating this quite well and the female seems to be in her element.

This happened to me for the exact same reason (bad humidity guage). I was lucky there was a place I could get her a few friends nearby. I hopeyour next hatch went well!
