Look at my buttons!!

Buttons are cute but everytime I hatch, I have to think housing as these guys have to be housed in pairs. I have a sale bin right now with 2 pairs and the rest boys...I probably will be posting up auctions soon on the two pairs.

Oh is that what they are called! THank you!!

Is the other female Coturnix coloured??

Does anyone elses button male run around with his wings dropped?? He looks like a tiny turkey :O

Yep, my male buttons will chase the females around with their wings all dropped down, they're so goofy!

I wish Coturnix's were strutters, they are such rood little boys.. I've got bald girls too, 1 to 1 ratio doesn't work with coturnix's. But I have a friend who wants to take one of my boys... Thankfully

Button quail are not Coturnix. I am saying this because I saw the phrase "coturnix colored"

You have a Blue face male, two cinnamon hens, a normal blue breasted hen (wild-type coloring).

Nope - Alexandra you should know that!

At one point, I must admit I did have a pen with 3 males and 1 female, but now I switched the pens around and I have 4 males in the same pen and 2 females in a different pen. I figured it'd be better to have 2 females together, I would put them with males but the other 4 males are their brothers so don't wonna start in-breeding!

I have 11 babies and they're at the point now that I am starting to see red vent feathers on the males. So another 2 weeks and I should be able to pair'em up.
I'm talking to shelleyd2008 about getting a few of her males for my females, that way they'd be from a different line.

Oh, quaillady - do you know if featheredobsession's buttons are related to each other? I mean, can I pair them up together or do I need a male/female from a different line to put with them?

featheredobsessions- they shouldn't be...she houses in pairs and keeps good records so I wouldn't worry

I feel ya with the extra boys...I have so many males, Now is the time to pair em up :")

So the males get red on their vent? Thats how you can sex them?

The wing dropping is just about the funniest thing I have seen an animal do. I keep trying to get a video of it to show friends but everytime I start recording he stops. He must be camera shy!

I've put 15 eggs in the bator. If I can't sell them we are planning on building a quail sanctuary out of a table or desk with separated areas for pairs. I saw the table idea online, you flip it and put plexi glass around.

I couldn't help myself, I want quail babies!!! I can't IMAGINE how small they are going to be. I am going to die of cuteness overload I fear. How do you guys stand it!?

Oh- and how old til they have to be separated? Like, how long will they live in a brooder together?
