I was looking for red sex links about 16 weeks or so because I could use the eggs. Couldn't find pullets anywhere. Went to the local Aqway and Squeeeee! A big tub of red sex link chicks. I took 12. I'll have to wait for the eggs but oh well, we can't have everything. By the time I got them home and set up they were pretty chilled, poor things, there's snow on the ground and it's about 25 degrees out there. They spent about 2 hours huddled together under the heat lamp but now they're starting to find their oomph. Naturally the DH calls home to see what's up and was pretty, ahem, surprised at the news that the sunroom was taken over again.

Your gonna love these. They are such great layers! What strain are they? I have Golden Comets and these look the same. I go with Comets usually because as adults they are such pretty hens, with fluffy white butts

Its an odd day that you don't get an egg from each hen once they start laying.

Wow those are cute! I didnt know much about them and I've got two chicks coming next week. An egg every day sounds great! What variety of red sex links are there and how do you know what variety you've got?

your gonna have a blast raising those chicks an watching them grow.i love watching them grow an change.

There are quite a few common sex links. I think the Comet is probably the most popular right now. I know a couple of companies, like Ideal, has there own in house sex link. It would be very hard as chicks to tell them apart, unless you already know what you have. Here is links to pics of the most popular varieties:

My Favorite:

Cinnamon Queen, gaining in popularity:

Red Star, which is a nice one too:

I don't know what strain of sex link they are, by the pictures I guess they're Comets. I wanted sex links from what I've heard about their egg laying prowess and personalities, but I didn't know I'd have to start from scratch! (so to speak).

Oh well. They're so dang cute.

Thanks Gwen, Mine are coming from Privett Hatchery, I guess cause we're west coast.

I'll check their website and see if I can tell.

Nope. I sent an email. It would be nice to know.

We have black sex-link hens and we just bought some gold sl chicks. I really link them. The hens have been consistent layers and have the best personality.
