Look at this spider!

He made a web from one of my bushes to the house! He's SO big! Biggest spider I've ever seem in real life! I put a really big ant in and he wrapped it up in less than 8 seconds! Does anyone know what kind he is?

Looks like a Hentz Orb Weaver. Quite common. I see them here starting in late summer through fall.

It's an Orb Weaver They love some areas of my property.

We have an 'understanding' in my family that I only kill the spiders that directly impact my routine personal space. BUT, when I take these guys down with a stick and let the hens eat them - I didn't kill them, per se.

If they invade my personal space, I am apt to off them with a spritz of Spic N'Span
spray liquid from $ 1. store - I use it for many things.

We just call them Orb Weavers in my neck of the woods (California Central Coast). I adore them (but I’m a spider lover - yes, yes, I’m weird). I’ll even go out at night when they’re sitting in the center of their webs and shine a flashlight on them to see what color they are (they come in many shades around here).
