Poor thing. I'm glad you were able to save them. Hopefully they'll call soon and you can move em on..I tried not to interfere, really, I did.
I saw one in a water bucket with the mother a foot away in the tall grass and by the time I got back with gloves it was out of the water, but the mother was still in the same place. I decided to just leave them there, but when I came back in a few hours the mother was clearly in distress, so I carefully gathered all three of them and placed them in a 100 gallon stock tank in the shade and covered it. About an hour later the mother was dead.
I went to remove her and saw that she had a dead and decaying baby in her pouch and that her mammary glands were big and full of pus, so I guess she had mastitis? She was also covered in fleas.
Anyway, I got a call into wildlife rescue, so that's where they are going as soon as I get a call back.![]()
