Look at what I found today - Baby Opossums

You can't let them starve to death! They need bottles?

From the looks of the chicken disemboweling tools in these cute little rascals' faces, I have a strong hunch that their days of nursing or needing a bottle are behind them.

Anyway possums carry their own food around inside of their intestines so there is little or no house breaking needed with a pet possum.

Also remember that at birth baby possums were about the size of a honey bee. It seems that these possums have already grown quite a lot in their short lives. The natural life span of the North American or Virginian Possum is short, only about 24 months so if you find that a possum is not your cup (or pouch) of tea you won't have to spend weeks and weeks trying to find new homes for them because mother nature will likely call the little darling home at any minute. Also don't forget that Possums carry and spread a serious protozoa disease to horses and several just run-of-the-mill diseases to dogs and humans like like E-Coli.

Little things like that you have to carefully hydrate until they have nice pale urine before feeding. They die quick if fed while dehydrated.
Thanks. I do understand the importance of proper supportive care. :) slowly warm, correct hydration status, then feed. It's one of the things I have a very hard time explaining to folks with sick chickens.

Possums, ick! The babies are kind of adorable I admit, but the adults are nasty, drooling, flea ridden chicken killers! I haven't seen any by my coop, we just have coyotes, raccoons, hawks...
She was infested with fleas. :(

I've been very careful handling them.
